 I 2008 på et britisk universitet ble det gjort et  6-ukers forsøk for å se om et kort Yogaprogram kan bedre velvære og opplevelse av stress på en arbeidsplas. Det ble funnet signifikante økninger i opplevelse av humør og velvære i gruppen som gjennomførte kurset i forhold til en kontrollgruppe som ikke gjorde Yoga.

Effects of 6-week yogic exercises training on blood pressure

The aim of the study was to assess the effects of 6-week selected yogic exercises training on blood pressure. 20
purposively selected male blood pressure patients from Amritsar (Punjab, India), aged 30– 50 years, volunteered to participate in this study. The yogic exercises training may be recommended to control blood pressure and may contribute to enhance health status and wellness.

Yoga and risk for type 2 dibetes

Various modes of physical activity, combined with dieting, have been widely recommended to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. Among these, yoga holds promise for reducing risk factors for type 2 diabetes by promoting weight loss, improving glucose levels and reducing blood pressure and lipid levels. This pilot study aimed to assess the feasibility of implementing a 12-week yoga program among adults at high risk for type 2 diabetes.

We hear of yogis living to a very old age. In his book Autobiography of a Yogi, Yogananda speaks of Trailanga Swami, who was reputed to be over 300 years old, and Shankari Mai Jiew, who was born in 1826, was still alive in 1946. Maharishi Raghuvacharya lived to the age of 115, and Devraha Baba was believed to have lived to over 250 years old. Yogis well known in the west who lived to a very old age include Krishnamacharya (101), Pattabhi Jois (93) and Indra Devi (103).
